50 years of
orchestra music

The Norwegian National Youth Orchestra is renowned for its high musical quality, and is considered to be one of the best of its kind in Europe. Annually performing between 8 and 12 concerts, the Norwegian National Youth Orchestra has an estimated audience of four to five thousand every year.

The Norwegian National Youth Orchestra aims to be:
- a dynamic and prominent promoter of orchestral music
- a high quality orchestral education opportunity at a national level
- a central recruitment institution for the country's professional orchestras

Every year, the orchestra is reassembled through the recruitment of music students aged 18–28. Highly qualified music students are recruited from all over Norway, as well as from Nordic and European places of higher education.

During intense summer gatherings, around 100 students are given the opportunity to work with instructors, conductors and soloists at the highest international level. Each year the orchestra presents concert programmes at the Elverum Festival (Festspillene i Elverum) and at other venues and events at home and abroad.

In 2020, the US Kammer was launched, a unique offer where the focus is on providing experience and training in chamber music interactions under the guidance of playing leaders of international top class.
